"Facing the Open Sea" – An Opera Where Lives Were at Stake
Promenade Concert on Grip – 28 & 29 August
At the very edge of the open sea, where weather and hard work have always had the final say, opera is set free!
On Grip – the weather-beaten, wild and beautiful island off the coast of Kristiansund – Nordmøre's acclaimed tenor Nils Arne Halle Erstad and pianist Vegard By invite audiences on a musical walking tour through historic boathouses, across rocky shores and into the island church. Arias, art songs and powerful melodies blend with the sound of wind and waves.
Grip's dramatic history of fishing, shipwrecks, faith and survival is woven together with the music, brought vividly to life through the human voice – raw, intimate and unfiltered.
This is opera as it is rarely experienced: outdoors, in the elements, at the heart of history, exactly where it belongs. Welcome to an unforgettable experience at the very edge of the ocean!
